Shennongjia – UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site
Shennongjia (Shennongjia National Park) in western Hubei Province, is said to be where Shennong (Yan Emperor), one of the two ancestors of Chinese people, tasted various herbs and thus facilitated traditional Chinese medicine. Renowned globally, this park has received four designations including World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, World Biosphere Reserve, Global Geopark, and Wetland of International Importance. It's the world's only well-preserved virgin forest area in the middle latitudes. Because of its terrific natural scenery, outstanding biodiversity, and the famous myth of wild man said to be spotted here, it attracts numerous tourists every year.
