Wanzhou County - Yangtze River Cruise

Known as the gateway to East Sichuan, Wanzhou is an important port and industrial center. Its tangerines, oranges and peaches are renowned throughout China.

Location & Geography

Located 350 kilometers downstream from Chongqing, Wanzhou spreads out on both sides of the river. At about the halfway point between Chongqing and Yichang, Wanzhou is a key point on the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and a vital land and water communications hub in Chongqing. It overlooks the Yangtze River and backs on mountains.

History & Culture

Previously known as Wanxian, and later received its name during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644). Joined and thousands of commodities gathered and distributed here and it has over 1700 years history. Today, Wanzhou is an important port and industrial center. Natural gas, rock salt, oranges and Chinese medicine herbs and 38 exploitable mineral resources are the advantageous resources in Wanzhou.

Weather & Climate

Wanzhou has a subtropical monsoon wet climate with four distinct seasons: a foggy but warm winter, a dry but hot summer, an early spring with instable temperature, and a long and rainy autumn.

The average annual temperature is 17.7°C. In addition, Wanzhou has a mild climate with plenty of rainfall and sunshine.

Xishan Bell Tower

Xishan Bell Tower was built in 1930 in Xishan Park (West Hill Park). The traditional Chinese architecture style employed on the Bell Tower makes it well worth a visit. For its grandness and beautiful design, Xishan Bell Tower is as famous as Shanghai Bell Tower, and both of them are the must-sees along Yangtze River.

Throughout the years, numerous celebrities like Libai, Dufu and Bai Juyi(great poets in Chinese history) have been to Wanzhou to admire its fantastic scenery.

Xishan Park (West Hill Park)

Located at the southwest of Wanzhou, the 14.3-hectare Xishan Park is one of the “Eight Scenic Attractions of Wanzhou”. The park was first constructed in 1925, and named “Jiuwu Park” in 1926 for the historical event happened here. In 1928, it changed its name “Xishan Park”.

At the entrance stands the magnificent Bell Tower, the two make the Wanzhou become more attractive and touching.
