Chengdu Weather & Seasons

Chengdu actually has “an early spring, a hot humid summer, a cool autumn, and a warm and dry winter”. The hottest months are July and August with the highest temperature reaching 37 °C. The coldest month is January with the lowest temperature sometimes dropping to 3.6°C.

During the spring time, the temperature climb reaching 21.3°C generally in the afternoon and falling to 12.7 °C overnight. Autumn temperature achieves average highs of 20.4°C during the day and lows of 14 °C after sunrise.

The best time to travel to Chengdu is in Spring and Autumn and the best months are March, April, May, September and October.

During these seasons, travelers could go around Chengdu city and extend to see Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei, Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong Valley etc. As for the giant panda, travelers could visit them all the year around in Chengdu and Bifengxia Panda Base.
