Shanghai Water Towns
There are two famous water towns near Shanghai - Zhujiajiao Water Town and Fengjing Water Town.
Zhujiajiao Water Town
Zhujiajiao Water Town is a township located 48 km from Shanghai downtown. Called “Oriental Venice”, Zhujiajiao has a history of 1700 years. Many of buildings can be seen today in this water town dated back to Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is a quiet water village that visitors could explore leisurely. You’ll pass by Kezhi Gardens, Qing Dynasty Post Office, Yunjin Monastery, the Town God Temple and many bridges.
Fengjing Water Town
Fengjing Water Town, one of the eight new views of Shanghai, is about 60 km from city center. There are some reasons to head to Fengjing. It is a little paradise for ancient stone bridges, temples, famous people and great food. The traditional ancient village will arouse your interest to take photos and enjoy the local leisure life.
Zhujiajiao Water Town
Suzhou
Suzhou, in Jiangsu Province, is about 100 km to the west of Shanghai. It is famed for its beautiful gardens and traditional waterside architecture. The Classic Gardens of Suzhou was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The top attractions in Suzhou are Humble Administrator’s Garden (Zhuozheng Yuan), Lingering Garden (Liu Yuan), Panmen Scenic Area (Pan Gate), Suzhou Museum, Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory, Mater of the Nets Gardens (Wangshi Yuan), Lion Grove Garden (Shizilin) and more sightseeing sites.
Water Towns near Suzhou: Zhouzhuang Water Town and Tongli Water Town.
Suzhou Garden
Hangzhou
Hangzhou, in Zhejiang Province, is about 200 km from Shanghai. Hangzhou is a paradise famous for its natural beauty and historical and cultural heritages. In 2011, West Lake was listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The other attractions in Hangzhou are Lingyin Temple, Six Harmonies Pagoda, Dragon Well Tea Plantation, The Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine etc.

Huangshan
Huangshan, also called Yellow Mountain, was listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Natural and Cultural Heritage in 1990. Mt.Huangshan is characterized by the “Four Wonders”, uniquely shaped pines, fantastic rock peaks, sea of clouds, hot springs. Yellow Mountain offers great places to view sunrise and sunset that you should not miss the spectacular scenery.
