Compare Yangtze River Cruises by Ship Size

Our ship size comparison of Yangtze River cruises are mainly based on ships’ cabin size and passenger capacity. In fact, sometimes the larger ship doesn’t mean a larger cabin you can get for there may be more passengers onboard, sharing the space with you.

Quit smaller than ocean cruising ships, ships served on the Yangtze are all designed according to fit the river condition, like the water level and river span through the gorgers. In this case, Three Gorgers Dam really plays an important role on ship design. For the water level raised higher after the Dam finished in 2006, the tonnage of Yangtze cruise ships turns to be larger than 10,000 tons.

So we divided Yangtze cruise ships into the following groups: the large ships built after 2006, and the middle-sized ships built before 2006, to show you the merits and demerits of the two kinds of ships.

The Middle-sized Yangtze Ships

  • Ship lengths are mostly less than 100 meters.
  • Gross Tonnages are mostly less than 6000T.
  • Fewer passengers onboard with the capacity around 150 to 270 persons.
  • None or only one elevator.
  • With 5 or less than 5 deckplans onboard.
  • Not all the ships have private cabins in every stateroom.
  • The average cabin size (based on standard cabin): 18.615 sq.m.
