We booked the 3-night downstream cruise on the "Yangtze 2". While boarding in Chongquing was more than difficult (long, unsecured stairs without any help), we were happy with the cabin, the food and the boat itself. The days on board were meant to relax in between a 3-week round-trip through China, and this came true.
Of course the scenery left and right of the River are somewhat the same, but still very impressive (especially when reaching the gorges). I did not expect more from this cruise!
The ship was clean and seemed well maintained. We were happy to have booked an executive cabin (special offer) because it has a reasonable size. The standard cabins must be rather small (1/3 smaller). Furthermore the meals are served separately, so max. 50 people attend the (really good) buffets, while the standard cabins share a 300-people restaurant/buffet. With drinks included in this offer, the additional money is well spent.

Our first vacation on cruise - couldn't have asked for any better. After reading lots of reviews about many cruise ships that sail through the mighty Yangtze.. and narrowed on this Yangtze 2 cruise - which got commissioned only in Nov'11 - it indeed was new. Excellent service by every crew member making our stay and the journey the most memorable. Every room has a balcony and that’s the best thing about it.. twin-beds with just about adequate space to move around.. well what more could you expect in a ship.
As it is a river cruise, you will never get bored. There are lots of things to see on either side of the ship..mountains, villages, towns, cities, lots of bridges.
The day trips were just wonderful.. As we took the 'Upstream' journey, it had the most of excursions and we enjoyed all of them.
Food is really sumptuous, very timely and excellent service by all of them.
Highly recommend the cruise Yangtze 2, take the upstream one even if costs high and one more day.

My family spent 4 days-3 nights downstream on MS Yangtze II Cruise from Chongqing to Yichang-and end the tour at the Three Gorges Dam. It was a great experience indeed. The travel schedule was busy but enjoy and relaxing. Once the ship stopped at touristic point, a local guide always told stories of the place based on his/her family experience. The interesting part for me is the fact of people life before and after the Dam construction, which combined with nice and sad stories. Cruise on the boat was also fantastic, the boat passed through three beautiful gorges of the river in the day time. I also like a night view when the boat stopped at the colorful cities, and after mid night wake up to see how the ship lock working to pass the Dam.

The cruise was exciting and as the lady cruse director who looked after us and 6 other Westerners was delightful. We were kept well informed of on-board and on-shore happenings but not overwhelmed with too much talk or information.
All meals were excellent with a fine blend of Asian and Western food. The only suggestion I have in regards to meals is that Westerners really like coffee with all meals, not just breakfast.
