Birthday Trip with Victoria Jenna Cruise on Yangtze River

Victoria Jenna Cruise Experience in May

We spent an excellent four day relaxing cruise with Victoria Jenna along the Yangtze River about halfway through our tour of China. It was a 5 days upstream cruise from Yichang to Chongqing.

We upgraded to a suite before we arrived on board with the help of our lovely guide, Annie. I was aware that upgrades are often offered at embarkation but as this was a birthday treat for my husband, I didn't want to take the risk of there being none available. The price was well worth it as we had a very spacious lounge area, a huge double bed and a large bathroom with spa bath and separate shower as well as a full width balcony. We didn't bother upgrading our dining option as we wanted to eat with the rest of the group.

We opted out of the first morning's optional tour and instead enjoyed a morning of complete relaxation.

The Three Gorges Dam is an impressive feat of engineering although, mist and rain spoilt our view of it. We went through the five locks beginning at about 11.30p.m. I didn't stay up to see all five - once you've seen one...

The next day we passed through the Wu and Qutang Gorges before sailing on smaller ships up the Goddess Stream. We had some of the best weather of our trip on this day so were able to appreciate more the stunning scenery we passed through.

That evening, the crew put on a talent show, which was really enjoyable - they're a talented bunch!

At the end of our tour the water level was too low for us to disembark at Chongqing, so we had to pack our cases on the last evening and put them out before going to bed, so they could be transferred to buses at Fengdu. This involved the porters carrying them all up 180 steps to the quayside. So, instead of cruising the last few miles to our destination, we had a three hour coach journey from Fengdu to Chongqing.

This did not dappen our enjoyment of the cruise and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
