How to get from Chengdu to Chongqing or Chongqing to Chengdu? Travel by Trains
Traveling by train is the most efficient and comfortable way to transfer between Chengdu and Chongqing. There are about 120 G, C, and D trains from Chengdu to Chongqing and vice versa, which take 1 - 2.5 hours. These trains run from 6:10 to 22:40, most departing from Chengdu East Railway Station and a few from Chengdu South Railway Station. Upon arrival in Chongqing, trains stop at one of three railway stations - Chongqing North Railway Station, Chongqing West Railway Station, or Shapingba Railway Station, each with many trains from Chengdu. You can choose a suitable one according to your schedule.
Train Booking Tips for Yangtze River Cruise Travelers:
Downtown Yangtze cruises FROM Chongqing can be boarded from 18:00 at Chaotianmen Dock, so you're suggested to book a train arriving in Chongqing BEFORE 16:30.
Upstream Yangtze cruises TO Chongqing arrive at 9:00 at Chaotianmen Dock, you're suggested to book a train departing from Chongqing AFTER 11:00.

Travel by Coach - Not Really Suggested
Taking a coach is also accessible since the two cities are close. However, they take 4 hours and cost about CNY 170 - 220, much more than that by taking a high-speed train. You can take one from bus stations at Chadianzi Metro Station near the city center or Chengdu East Railway Station to arrive at bus stations at Chongqing North Railway Station, Chongqing West Railway Station, or Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

Most travelers take a Chengdu Chongqing tour for about 6 days, with 2 days in Chengdu, 1 day in Chongqing, and 3 days on the Yangtze River cruise.
